![]() It'll probably be $15, which is a mighty step up from the original Octodad, which is still free. ![]() Sony's persistence paid off for both parties, and now Tibitoski is thinking about Move integration (Seriously, can you imagine?) and has Dadliest Catch slated for a launch in spring 2014 on PS4, following a PC launch in January. He'd love to do a Kinect version, though (Can you imagine?). Besides, he'd want to have total control of the Octodad IP, and Microsoft's move to disallow self-publishing could affect that goal. Young Horses and Microsoft have exchanged a few emails, but Tibitoski said Microsoft hadn't gone out of its way to make anything happen. Then, a few months before E3, Sony asked Young Horses if it wanted to be a part of the PS4 E3 conference. Sony first approached Young Horses about Octodad after its IGF nomination in 2011, and the two stayed in contact over the years, Sony checking in about Dadliest Catch and talking about potential partnerships. A group of people waiting to play and watching the carnage on-screen constantly bubbles around the Octodad kiosks. ![]() He said, yes, but it's usually when the team finds some unexpected consequence of all that flailing in the game.ĭadliest Catch is part of Sony's massive E3 exhibit, running on four separate PS4s alongside dozens of next-gen and Vita games. I asked developer Philip Tibitoski if, after three years of this insanity, Octodad still made him laugh. It's outrageous, and it's endlessly funny. Even after mastering the controls, Octodad moves with the grace of an inflatable tube man, knocking down vases – there are a lot of vases in this church – and generally smacking things the player doesn't intend to smack. On PS4, players control Octodad's movements by switching between his arms and his legs with the left bumper, and then holding the appropriate trigger and scooting his appendages in the desired direction with the analog sticks. It's difficult to frown while playing Dadliest Catch, especially as Octodad makes his way to the dance floor, crushing the cake, flipping over tables and knocking down all of the presents. There are two layers of gameplay in Dadliest Catch: Completing the tasks set forth on the screen, and simply walking around and destroying the environment in a haphazard, maniacal fashion. Octodad must avoid the goo balls, retrieve the ring and finally make his happily-ever-after a reality. When he finally lurches to the chapel doors, his wife's guests – his wife and her acquaintances are all human, it should be noted – glare globs of goo at him. ( Of course Octodad wears a bowtie and top hat to his wedding. He must find certain objects and complete tasks to make himself presentable: find keys for doors, collect neck ties, and put on his bowtie and hat. Ocotodad: Dadliest Catch features our boneless hero as he prepares for his wedding. It was a surprise for fans of the first Octodad, a free PC game that Young Horses launched in 2010 to a strange brand of public acclaim (and confusion).Īs I played through the Dadliest Catch demo on the PS4 at E3, one thing became apparent: Just because Octodad had pressed his suit for major-console gaming, he was still an ambulatory-impaired octopus – and that will always be hilarious. Still, Sony featured Dadliest Catch during its E3 press conference, alongside a selection of indie games coming to PlayStation 4. As a physics game about an Octopus father navigating domestic life on land, it has more than enough madness on its own. Octodad: Dadliest Catch doesn't need wild marketing antics.

The evaluation has two prongs, assessing on the one hand if current payment reforms will succeed in improving population health, and on the other if this approach to population health improvement is normatively and politically sound. The article considers if health care payers can and should incentivize providers to take responsibility for population health, even when it requires nonmedical services and the remediation of social problems, and whether the health of populations should be implicated in providers’ cost containment. The purpose of this article is to analyze the potential of the health care system to achieve the triple aim and, specifically, the attempt to improve population health by rewarding providers who contain costs. These mechanisms partake of the enduring economism of US payment policy, that is, the belief that precisely calibrated financial incentives will produce socially desirable ends. From CMS's perspective, the triple aim is vital to Medicare, and new payment mechanisms, such as the accountable care organization (ACO), have been deployed to achieve it. It is the latest and most ambitious of a succession of health care goal statements, which progressed from cost containment in the 1970s, to cost containment while/by improving quality in the 1980s and 1990s, to cost containment while/by improving quality and population health most recently. The formulation of the triple aim responds to three problems facing the US health care system: high cost, low quality, and poor health status (which frustrates efforts to contain cost and improve quality). This was possible not least through the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), specific provisions of which are considered to embody the triple aim. Berwick became administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2010 and described the pursuit of these three goals as the focus of his term (Fleming 2010). In 2008, Donald Berwick and colleagues proposed that the US health care system adopt the “triple aim”: to improve health care, to improve population health, and to reduce per capita health care costs (Berwick, Nolan, and Whittington 2008). Social determinants of health, payment reform, bundled payment, ACOs, integrated care Introduction It will address proposals that health care payers and providers lead in addressing the social contributors to ill health and urge payment reformers to appreciate more fully the politics and policies of other sectors and the dynamics of their inclusion in population health improvement. The conclusion section of the article will consider the politics of payment reform as social reform. These include Maryland's Global Revenue Budget model, bundled payments, and ACOs, and they highlight the extent to which this version of integration is underwritten by savings achieved by providers for the Medicare program. The second section of the article will discuss CMS's efforts to pay providers to achieve the triple aim, that is, to improve health care and population health while containing cost. The first section of the article will consider the task of improving population health through the health care system. ![]() The formulation of the triple aim responds to three problems facing the US health care system: high cost, low quality, and poor health status. ![]() As I wrote before, type is never neutral, but you can to go “invisible” or fully integrate in the used platform by picking the system fonts. Maybe you use Open Sans intentionally because your project should not stand out and you want to stay “neutral”. If you want to blend in and “stay neutral“ But for now I just want to motivate you to get fresh perspective and look for other options. ![]() And I’ll cover a follow up video on how to judge a good typeface for your body text in one of the next videos. And yes – there is a lot of crap there too that might not be suited for your project. Reverse the order on Google fonts for popularity and then check out the others. I really want to encourage you to look at the tiny foundries, distributors and type designers that license them for a reasonable price, just to mention one of my favorites like DJR, fontfabric, latinotype or futurefonts. Take a look at my list where to get good fonts. There are a lot of other fonts out there, some also free and open source, that are an equal good choice. Show the uniqueness of your project and bring out the best of it by choosing a font that is not so common in your project’s industry. I encourage you not to use Open Sans, or Robot, or Lato, or PT Sans, or Montserrat, or Helvetica … just because it’s popular. We just forgot about that since we got so used to not paying for fonts which could also be not paying for your project’s individuality. If you use it for a big, wide-spread project the budget for a more rarely used font is most certainly there. If you use it for a small project – licensing isn’t that expensive. But money spend on a typeface is well invested. That’s probably the main reason, right? And everybody loves to save money and administrative effort. It’s free and brings no hassle with licensing But do you really need all these characters and styles? For most projects you might be good with regular, bold, maybe italic. It’s got many of styles and supports a lot of languagesĪbsolutely, its five weights with corresponding italics make it suitable for a range of applications. But there are plenty of other fish in the typographic ocean sharing the same characteristics that should be seen, admired, and loved. It’s easy to read and has a friendly appearance Let’s take a closer look at the main reasons why Open Sans is so popular and what arguments are against that. Branding – Sets the vibe for your message and makes it distinguishable and memorable: Font follows feeling.Function – Makes your message easy to read: Font follows function. There are two main things a solid typeface selection can provide: So the choice of a font is your chance to stand out. And for an app the UX conventions are mostly predetermined by the given platform like iOS or Android (which they should be). For the mobile view of a website there is not much room left for a special layout. When looking at a website or app on your phone, what remains from your branding except colors and images – it’s mostly text. And since we live in a mobile first world, distinctive typography has gotten even more important. So the form of these characters influence the way we receive a message. It makes a difference if I set these famous three words in different typefaces. Where do you feel loved? Different typefaces from top to bottom: Winsome by Laura Worthington, Helvetica by Max Miedinger, and Elliots by Emigre. And as Jason Pamental said in a talk “Type is never neutral“. It sets the tone of voice or the vibe for your project. And typography is the clothes your words wear. ![]() There is almost no website, app or digital product that exists without text. In this article I’ll cover why your font choice matters, why Open Sans is that popular, and where to find alternatives for more diverse typography on the web. And if you’re just using Open Sans you’re missing out on that. When something has so many views it can’t be bad, right? Wrong! Choosing a typeface is an opportunity for your website, app or digital product to show personality, be memorable and stand out among its competition. And I guess most people might use it just because it’s popular. However, there is nothing wrong about Open Sans specifically, my point is that it’s just overused, it’s the new Arial. Countless websites use it, including big brands like: IKEA (actually it’s Noto Sans, but they are almost the same), Chase Bank and WordPress (on the website until it’s 2020 redesign and switch to Recoleta). It ranks among the most popular Google Fonts with more than 1.5 trillion views in one year. Open Sans, Open Sans, Open Sans! It’s everywhere. The video quality, however, was indistinguishable from that of the shorter project in most aspects. By comparison, burning a 118-minute project at the new Best Quality setting required 4 hours and 40 minutes. In my tests, burning a 48-minute iMovie project at iDVD 4’s Best Performance encoding setting (which is equivalent to the encoding scheme in iDVD 3) took roughly 50 minutes on a 1.25GHz PowerBook G4. iDVD 4 adopts the same MPEG-2 encoding technology that Final Cut Pro uses, which translates to not only more data per disc but also better-quality data.
